Welcome to My Michigan (The Mitten)
I took a fifteen year break from photography to spend as much time as possible with my family. Now that the kids are out of school and I find myself with more free time I have decided to join the digital age and pick up where I left off.
For me photography is a labor of love. It helps me see everything in a new light and a new way. Everyday events become forever memories. Insects, flowers, animals and birds become magical and mystical. My eyes see a whole new world around me, sometimes alien but always beautiful. This is what I love to do, winter, spring, summer and fall, immersed in the great out of doors with a camera in my hand.
Come and join me on my expeditions. And just maybe, like many others, you will come away "Smitten by the Mitten".

Unexpected Treat
This was the first cloud free night of the week so my wife and I were up late taking photos of the night sky. After taking several shots of the Milky Way I was getting ready to call it quits when my wife asked me to take a photograph of the Big Dipper. Surprise, there is a touch of northern lights on the horizon!
The Mighty Mac
I really love this bridge. I can still remember the first time I saw it, WOW! And today when I saw it for the upteenth time, WOW.
Twin Lakes IR
It's always fun to get back on Twin Lakes and paddle around. I decided to shoot a few IR pics while I was there. I wish the wind would have been a little more calm.

Oriole
I almost missed this one. I paddled right by her but a slight movement caught my eye so I quickly turned around and waited for her to come out of hiding. It appeared that she was feeding on this Bittersweet Nightshade?
Choose Me Mom
I'm back in the kayak with the long lens. I waited a long time for this one.
Looking North
Sometimes the sunset colors over Hammond Bay (looking east and north) are just as vivid as they are in the west. Last night was one of those times.
And low on the horizon about ten miles out.
Me, Myself and I
Last night we had a campfire on the beach. It was a perfect evening. One by one everyone went inside for the night. Soon I was the only one left to entertain myself.
Close Up
The threat of thunderstorms kept me out of the kayak so I decided to get out the macro gear. I would like to thank Mother Nature for providing the models. I may enter one of these in a contest titled "Structure" and title it "Wings" or something like that. Pictured are a Hover Fly, Honey Bee, Hover Fly, Skipper and 1st or 2nd instar grasshopper.
Curiosity
These very curious baby muskrats thought they had made a safe choice by hiding under the roots of a fallen tree. Little did they know that I could still see them frolicking about.
Willow Dragon
This is the famous Willow Dragon at the Children's Garden. The kids can travel through the inside from head to tail.
Monet Bridge
Another photo of the Monet Bridge at the Children's Garden. I'm thinking about entering this in a contest with the theme "curves".
