Welcome to My Michigan (The Mitten)
I took a fifteen year break from photography to spend as much time as possible with my family. Now that the kids are out of school and I find myself with more free time I have decided to join the digital age and pick up where I left off.
For me photography is a labor of love. It helps me see everything in a new light and a new way. Everyday events become forever memories. Insects, flowers, animals and birds become magical and mystical. My eyes see a whole new world around me, sometimes alien but always beautiful. This is what I love to do, winter, spring, summer and fall, immersed in the great out of doors with a camera in my hand.
Come and join me on my expeditions. And just maybe, like many others, you will come away "Smitten by the Mitten".
Thank you for stopping by.

Here comes the snow, here comes the snow,
And I say it's all right
This reminded me of the saying "Out of the frying pan and into the fire".

The assignment this week is "Cold". So I thought I would go out and get some Cold Duck.

The temperature is 5 degrees and the wind chill is -10. But someone said that the Moon and Jupiter won't be this close together again until 2026. In less than 5 minutes I couldn't feel my fingers enough to work the buttons on the camera. The focus is a little off but what the heck. I like it.

I can not believe that it is January 19 and I was able to go kayaking again for the second weekend in a row. Too much happiness!

This is a 22 degree halo. I took this photo today while kayaking on the Grand River near Onondaga.

This month the Mid Michigan Photography Club has a gallery show at the East Lansing Public Art Gallery. There are a total of forty outstanding photographs on display. I have Synchronized flight and Winter Garden on display. If you appreciate fine photography it would be well worth your time to stop by and check it out.

Winter Garden
You never know what precious presents you might find under the Christmas tree.

The moon still looks the same. I don't feel any different. In fact everything seems unchanged. This was taken at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Last Thursday I stayed up late to try my hand at a timelapse video of the Geminid Meteor shower. I had to go to work the next day so I was only able to photograph from 10:30 to just past midnight. There is a lot of room for improvement but overall I am pretty satisfied with the results. The rosey hue is from the city lights reflecting off the clouds. If I had not underexposed the photos I think you would have been able to see a few meteors streak across the night sky. I am encouraged by the results and will give it another try. Next time I will not underexpose the images and I will photograph for a longer period of time.
They sure do grow up fast. He still has a lot of puppy in him though.

Hey diddle diddle,
The Cat and the fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the moon,
The little Dog laughed to see such sport,
And the Dish ran away with the Spoon.
