Welcome to My Michigan (The Mitten)
I took a fifteen year break from photography to spend as much time as possible with my family. Now that the kids are out of school and I find myself with more free time I have decided to join the digital age and pick up where I left off.
For me photography is a labor of love. It helps me see everything in a new light and a new way. Everyday events become forever memories. Insects, flowers, animals and birds become magical and mystical. My eyes see a whole new world around me, sometimes alien but always beautiful. This is what I love to do, winter, spring, summer and fall, immersed in the great out of doors with a camera in my hand.
Come and join me on my expeditions. And just maybe, like many others, you will come away "Smitten by the Mitten".
Thank you for stopping by.

Excellent sun pillar this morning at sunrise. Wish I would have had something other than my iPhone.

This is a new one for me. It is well hidden so you have to use your imagination just a bit to make it out. A big thank you to the Klein's for sharing this beauty.

Driving the back roads up to Maple River SGA I found this guy showing off along the side of the road.

Ring-necked Pheasant.

Ring-necked Pheasant II.
I went to Maple River SGA this afternoon to search for the pot-o-gold and was lucky enough to find it. Here is a far off shot of the Golden Eagle and a few other birds that I saw today.

Bald Eagle

Northern Shrike
Pictures of ducks and pictures of farms. Maybe I should buy a farm and raise ducks! I could call it Duck Dynasty.

Lake Michigan is almost 90% frozen over. So I thought why not spend a sunny day at the beach? These photos were taken at the end of the Muskegon channel.

Looking out over Lake Michigan. The ice is piled too high to see the horizon.

I believe this is the light at the end of the north pier. The seagull seems to be enjoying the view.
An old and very wise wildlife photographer told me that "when you see the squirrels starting to turn white it means 20 more weeks of winter".

Here are three more pics from the weekend. I thought they turned out nice.

Female Red Breasted Merganser at Muskegon.

Male Greater Scaup at Potter Park.

Horned Grebe at Potter Park.
Yesterday I drove to Muskegon to see the Barrow's Goldeneye. Not only did I see the Barrow's but I saw four other birds that I can add to my life list! Go to Muskegon Ducks to see the rest of the birds.

Barrow's Goldeneye and Common Goldeneye.
I was happy to see some Redheads and Horned Grebes along with more Common Goldeneye and a female Greater Scaup. Mixed in with the rest of them was a little female Bufflehead. Here is a link to all the pics from Moores Park Ducks Feb 02.

This was the Highlight of my weekend. He was at Moores Park in Lansing.
More pics can be seen here: Peregrine Falcon.

Just you and me and me and you... I just love this shot. It was taken at Moores Park this afternoon.

These geese have found some open water on the Red Cedar River. I like to imagine they are dreaming of warmer days ahead.
